The Arrival

After eight hours of driving, finally I  reached Miami. I drove around town looking for a temporary spot to lay my head. I passed by a for rent sign. A small little beachfront flat.  I saw a dirty blonde hottie landscaping out front. I walked up the cobblestone walk way.

“Hello my name is Nomi are you the owner of this property? ” I asked, extending my hand for a handshake.

“Yes.” He said, shaking my hand in return.

” I saw the for rent sign, how much?” I said

” I’m asking for one thousand a month for a year lease and twelve hundred for a month to month.” He replied

” I’m very interested when is it available for show?” I asked. He stared at me for a moment with his icy blue eyes.

” Now, if you wanna check it out?” he said, placing the last pair of colorful flowers into the ground.

He stood up and led me through the oversized white door. Once inside there were hardwood floors throughout.  The walls in the kitchen, dining, and living room area were painted a bright yellow. It was very spacious.  I loved the country styled kitchen with wood and glass cabinets.  We walked into the bedroom.  The walls were a pale baby blue with white trim. There was a sliding patio door that led outside to a privately fenced backyard. There was a beautiful garden with an outdoor shower. The wooden gate open and there it was the ocean and the sand beneath my feet. I loved the smell of ocean. I was sold.

” I’m in love and I would love to rent it.” I said smiling.

” What do I have to do? I asked.”
He folded his arms and leaned against the fence.

“I’m asking for first and last months rent and a two thousand deposit. Deposit is returned if there is no damage to the property.  I just need to verify references and income.” He said, taking a sip of his bottled water. His lips were so pink against his tan face. He was sexy, as he unknowingly flaunted his six pack through is wife beater tank top.

I had neither, but we would find out if money talks. I open my Louie leather shoulder bag and counted out six months of rent and deposit. I handed him a total of nine thousand and two hundred dollars. He gave me a puzzled look as we walked back inside.

” I’m new here, I have no family, and no friends. I do plan on getting a job. I know no one seriously and I hope you can make an exception.” I said.
He seemed hesitant. He counted the money and let out a high pitch whistle.

” I guess I can let you slide I never had anyone to give me their rent for six months.” He said rubbing his chin.

” First time for everything.” I replied smiling.

” So no boyfriend I take it?” He asked staring between my breast. I pretend I didn’t notice.

“No I’m not dating anyone.”

“Good, so how about a date around town tomorrow night?” He asked blushing.

” You like black girls?” I just had to ask.

” I don’t see race, but I know beauty and I must say you are naturally beautiful. So I can pick you up at seven?”

” Yea I should be ready.” I said

“Oh the dress code is swimwear.” He said placing the keys on the kitchen counter and walking out the door. As I was standing there I heard a loud roar. I looked out the window. He was headed down the street on a black and chrome Harley.

The Departure

“Those were some grade a painkillers.” I thought to myself. Flexing my neck from side to side. Whoa, why am I so damn stiff?  Must be the cheap mattress. I placed both feet on the stained brown carpet and made my way to the bathroom.  I sat on the toilet, looking at my legs. “Ugh I need to shave.” Running my hands down my calfs. Flexing my toes; “A pedicure too.” Except there was no time for stops. I was carrying a suitcase full of Benjamins like Tony Montana.  I was holding a loaded desert eagle as well. That equaled jail time. I pulled my hair into a pony tail and turned on the shower. I finished my business and stepped under the steamy shower head. The water felt so good massaging my stiff muscles. “My leg was still wounded that means no heels.”I thought to myself. Annoyed I got dressed I decided to pack a new pair of black skull print leggings I grabbed from Torrid.
I paired them with a white ribbed tank and long black cross necklace. I slipped my feet into my black ballerina flats. I unwrapped my hair combing it forward over my shoulders. I applied a little mascara and lipgloss. The finally touch matching cross earrings.  I was sexy with a limp as I walked out the motel room to the office. I placed the keys in the drop box and got into my I Sport. I drove onto highway I-95 heading south I couldn’t wait to reach my destination.

Vacation Writing? A Do or Don’t?

I need a vacation want a vacation! However, I have two jobs, being a self published author I plan on keeping my full-time job until I reach the big leagues. I just need time to relax, writing is exciting for me. Except working in the healthcare field takes a toll on me throughout the day. Some days I write and sometime it can be days before I return to my writing zone. When I write I like to be in a quiet space, minimal noise, and no distractions. I like incense, jazz, or classical music to get the keys moving. Lately I haven’t had any of this. I’m thinking the Caribbean, after Christmas. I was thinking of cruising, but after all the negative events as of recently, I think not.  This would give me plenty of quiet time. Writing by the beach. No laptop, too much luggage just a good old notebook and pen. I think I made up my mind. I can’t say if it’s a do or don’t, I have yet to try. All I can say is that I will soon be a writer on vacation, a beach bag with my pen and paper. Oh let’s not forget my cutest swimwear, floppy straw hat, and Chanel shades. (Thanks Micheal! 😉 ) Can’t wait to feel the sand underneath my feet. How about you? Image

Our First Date

June 29, 2010

I met you only a few days ago. You made me feel like I was sixteen again. Maybe it was the age difference. We laughed and you touch my face all on the first date. We ate popcorn and we laughed, you loved inside jokes. We held hands and shared kisses. If I would have never said hello, look at what we would be missing. Is this love or just a crush? Am I in love with you I think not? Thinking about love at first sight gets my heart in knots. Maybe it’s the chemistry I feel as we ride into the night, down the rain sleek road.

Noticing a vacancy sign of a motel, we begin a game of kiss and tell. Naked spilling all our secrets, we lay together under the thin white sheets. What just happen made my heart skip a few beats. We rose to our feet, riding back into the late night hour. You dropped me off, and I found myself alone in the shower. You didn’t even kiss him again, you’re such a coward. I call him 30 minutes after the hour. I had fun tonight, please come over and let’s make love for these next few hours. He arrived on my doorstep within the hour.

Criticism Is One’s Opinion

As a new author you probably find yourself checking your reviews to your new novel or new blog post. Hoping and praying that everyone likes your book or post. Hmm….that’s impossible because everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It’s only negative if you don’t find the value in the opinion. I got my first two star rating and the reader loved my character, but felt that I did not tell enough of the story, and things were too unrealistic. The only thing that puzzled me was unrealistic. I thought that’s what fiction is all about, and that’s why you have different genres. Genres such as mystery, paranormal, fantasy, and sci-fi just to name a few the list can go on and on. That’s how you know the difference between a reader and a writer. For a non-writer I would not expect them to understand what we feel. I can tell you this. As a writer it takes a lot of courage to present your idea to the world. Yes, it was fine reading it yourself, family, and friends. Now, it’s up for grabs by potential agents, and complete strangers. We write and publish hoping that we are the next Stephen King, Oscar Wilde, Shakespeare, and E.L James. As writers we live and are determined to reach these new heights. At least one of these authors gave you the drive and the motivation to tell your stories. Personally I love to read and I have just gotten my hands on my first sci-fi book The Bastion By: Joshua Harkin and I must say I feel like I’m actually there! I love to write and I love to read. I just love it! Happy Writing Everyone! 🙂

CreateSpace Print on Demand

I’m happy to say that Amazon’s Create Space print on demand service was much more than I expected. My book cover and author picture turned out beautiful. The size I selected was okay could have been a little smaller. I may re size later, however I’m impressed. The only thing I hated about the entire process was getting my file corrected and margins. After re sizing the entire document there were no more errors. Except one small delay, I accidentally approved the proof that I was unhappy with and now I’m waiting on support. Another plus, is that tech support is available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Especially for a woman like me. I have no patience! ” I want it now!” If you are computer savvy its easy to self-publish as a author. If I would have not taken advantage of the online resources I would have been still waiting from a reply from a agent or publisher. I submitted a sample manuscript a year ago. Now, a year later I’m published. Except the search is still on for a agent one that doesn’t mind working with someone who’s work is already being read and reviewed. Getting that proof copy in my hand today,  a feeling of joy! This is a reality and pretty soon I will be on the bookshelves of Urban Fiction readers. If you curious about Urban Lit well get a copy of my book: Circle of Games “The Lovely B” its full of action keeps you on the edge of your seat. But, hey we as writers’ are never going to down grade our work. All great writers’ produce a masterpiece of their imagination.

Last Week’s Addiction

Last week’s addition was simply over my amazon sales rank and how many downloaded my book during the free promotion. What I did figure out during my observation and obsessing was that when units are sold it’s not updated instantly. Your rankings change hourly and it depends on how many books you have sold the hour before the update. All this new information and insight is what I call overwhelming. I’m proud to say I cut back on viewing my progress to twice a day. Once at about two in the afternoon ,then once more before bedtime. However, when I start the new promotion this Friday-Saturday I won’t check it until bed time. Easier said then done! I wonder do New York Times Best Selling Authors have this sell addiction? I guess it comes with the new author territory. My goal is to sell at least a hundred books in a month. I’m currently at twenty-seven the last I checked. Those are the numbers for my paying customers. I had 1500 downloads the first day my book was released and it was free. If it wasn’t for the KDP Select rules; that doesn’t allow you to  publish no where else for 90 days I feel I could have tripled my numbers. All in good time, that’s the only down fall. KDP is great for new authors. Now, I just have to find a way to cope with my addiction. Great day guys and happy writing.
